Where to Stay for a Broadway Show in New York City

If you are in town for a show, stay in the Theater District itself. Aura Hotel Times Square sits at 120 W 44th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, with several Broadway houses on the same block and Times Square a two-minute walk west.
Which theatres are within walking distance?
- Belasco Theatre (111 W 44th St): across the street, under a minute.
- Hudson Theatre (141 W 44th St): about two minutes east.
- Lyceum Theatre (149 W 44th St): about two minutes east.
- Times Square: two to three minutes west toward Broadway and Seventh Avenue.
- Bryant Park and 42nd Street: four to five minutes east.
Most houses in the district are a five to fifteen minute walk, which means no car, no cab and no parking on a show night.
How early should you leave the hotel?
Most Broadway curtains are at 7:00 or 8:00 PM, with matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Doors usually open about 30 minutes before curtain. From 44th Street, leaving the lobby 25 to 30 minutes ahead gives you time at the door, the bag check and the bar without rushing.
Where do you eat before a show?
Two rooms are attached to the hotel, which removes the timing risk. Gatsby's Landing serves New American cooking next door at 120 W 44th Street. The Long Room is the gastropub on the other side, with Irish whiskey, craft beer and pub plates, and it serves breakfast and weekend brunch for guests. Both are a one-minute walk from the elevator, so a 6:00 PM table still gets you seated by 7:55.
For a pre-theatre prix fixe, Restaurant Row on W 46th Street is a nine to ten minute walk northwest.
How do you get around without a car?
The hotel sits between two major subway complexes. Times Square-42nd Street (1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W and the shuttle) is two to three minutes west. 42nd Street-Bryant Park (B, D, F, M, 7) is two to three minutes east. For uptown museums, 47-50 Streets-Rockefeller Center (B, D, F, M) is four to five minutes north.
What should you know before booking a Times Square hotel?
Rates are not the whole bill. At Aura, a $35 per night destination fee covers Wi-Fi and a welcome drink at The Long Room, self-parking runs about $75 per night before tax, and pets are $150 per pet per stay with a two-pet limit. Check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM, with a minimum check-in age of 21. Rooms do not take rollaway beds.
Location is the trade: 44th Street is one block off the square itself, so you get the theatres and the subway without sleeping on the plaza.
What is on this season?
NYC Broadway Week runs January 20 to February 8 and September 8 to 20 in 2026, with two-for-one tickets. NYC Restaurant Week follows January 20 to February 12 and July 21 to August 16. From late October through March, the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park adds a free skating rink and holiday market four to five minutes east.
